Org Chart Lightning App Tab

In addition to including the Org Chart component on your Lightning Record Pages, you can add the Visualforce Tab to the navigation menu of your Lightning Apps. The Org Chart tab is also available from Salesforce Classic if you have users that are not yet fully on Lightning. 

The same Org Chart features available through the component are available when Org Chart is accessed through the tab. There are two primary differences between the component and the tab to be aware of. Knowing these differences will help guide which experience is better suited for any given use case.

• Selecting the Object Hierarchy: The component has context to the Account, Contact or Opportunity you navigate while the tab does not. As a result, when you navigate to the Org Chart tab you need to select the Object as well as the specific record you want to view. 
• Organization Hierarchy: This is only available from the Org Chart tab and allows you to view the internal Org Chart for your company. 

Selecting the Object Hierarchy

When you navigate to the Org Chart tab, the first step is to Select Object Hierarchy. Account Hierarchy will be selected by default so if that's what you want to see there is no need to change the value. If you want to view a different hierarchy type, simply update Select Object Hierarchy value and the resulting list of records will update accordingly.

In the below example, I've selected Opportunity Hierarchy and clicked on the Edge Emergency Generator Opportunity. As a result, I can easily view and update the Contact Roles associated to this Opportunity. As a Sales Manager, this Org Chart experience is incredibly valuable as I can quickly view stakeholders for key deals. In this case, I see we still need to identify the Economic Buyer.  

Toggle between Org Chart Configuration Options

The Org Chart Configuration menu (gear icon) allows you to toggle between different hierarchies related to the selected record. See here to learn more about Org Chart Configurations.

Going off the previous example of the Edge Emergency Generator Opportunity, as a Sales Manager I can quickly drill up to the full Edge Communications Org Chart to see where the stakeholders identified fit in the broader company structure.

 

Organization Hierarchy

The ability to view your internal organizations hierarchy is unique to the Org Chart tab. This hierarchy is based on the Users Manager (ManagerId). 

Notes:

• At this time, User images are not supported
• In order to use this hierarchy to create new Users, you must first create a User Profile Page Layout with the necessary fields and assign to profiles accordingly.
