This article details the additional configuration options available when using Salesforce junction objects with Org Chart. See the Org Chart Configurations article for general documentation or watch this instructional video.
Whether creating an Org Chart Configuration that uses a standard Salesforce junction object or a custom junction object, there are several additional options available to further customize the Org Chart experience.
Available Configuration Options
Detail Panel
In addition to showing the details of the hierarchy object, when the Override Detail Panel Tabs option is enabled, you can also show details from the junction object. You can opt to add either the Junction Object Full Layout or the Junction Object Compact Layout as an additional tab to the Detail Panel.
Card Display Fields
When creating a custom Org Chart Configuration, you can specify which two fields you want to display on the Card. The Primary Display Field must be a field from the hierarchy object. The Secondary Display Field can be a field from the hierarchy object or the junction object. To select a field from the junction object enable the Override Secondary Display Field option. Doing so will refresh the Secondary Display Field allowing you to select a field from the junction object.
Card Color Legend
By default, Org Chart will display the Color Legend that's defined for the hierarchy object. There are scenarios, however, where you might want a different Color Legend for the junction object that's being traversed for the resulting hierarchy. If your use case calls for a Color Legend specific to the junction object in use, follow these steps:
- See Card Color Legend for details on creating the required custom field and customizing the Color Legend
- Once you've completed the first step, return to the Org Chart Configuration and enable the Use Junction Object Color option
Example Configuration & Org Chart User Experience
The following example shows how you can leverage these configuration options to provide additional value to Squivr Org Chart users. A widely used standard Salesforce junction object is the Opportunity Contact Role object and since Squivr provides a default Opportunity & Contact Roles configuration, this example will show how quickly you can implement this functionality.
Configuration
- From the Org Chart Configuration tab, click New Org Chart Configuration
- Provide a Name and from the Default Configuration Options select list choose Map Using Opportunity Contact Roles
- Enable the Allow Configuration Menu option and Save
- Navigate down to and click on the Child Tree Object
- We have opted to set the Secondary Display Field as the Opportunity Contact Role Role field
- We have included the Junction Object Full Layout as a Detail Panel tab
- We are opting to Use Junction Object Color (note: in order to see this option, you must first follow the steps outlined here)
